The Didactica Magna of John Amos Comenius (1592–1670), often called the father of modern education, setting out 'the whole art of teaching all things to all men'. Comenius proposes universal schooling for boys and girls, graded schools, teaching in the mother tongue, learning through the senses and real things, and well-ordered methods that make learning pleasant.
